Your profile is your identity in the Overlander community. Showcase your experience, achievements, trip history, and connect with fellow overlanders.

Viewing Your Profile

Access your profile from the bottom navigation bar (Profile tab).

Profile Header

The top section displays:

Profile Photo: Avatar with camera icon for editing
Display Name: Your chosen username
Join Date: When you created your account (e.g., "Joined Oct 2024")
Logout Button: Access in the top right corner

💡 First Impression: Your profile photo and display name are how others recognize you. Choose a clear photo and memorable name to make meaningful connections.

Editing Your Profile

Customize your profile with personal information, photos, and location.

Opening the Edit Screen

1 From your profile page, select "My Profile" from Quick Actions

2 Edit screen opens with all editable fields

3 Make your changes

4 Tap "Save Profile" at the bottom

Profile Fields

Basic Information

Name: Your display name (required)
Short Bio: Up to 250 characters describing yourself (optional)
Email: Contact email address (required)
Phone Number: Contact phone (required)

Profile Photo

Tap the camera icon on your avatar to change
Select from your photo library or take a new photo
Photo is automatically optimized and resized
Changes take effect immediately after save

Address Information

Location Picker: Select your location on an interactive map
Address Parsing: Automatically fills street, city, state, ZIP, country
Manual Entry: You can also type address fields directly
Location Status: Shows "Location set" when coordinates are saved

Using the Location Picker

1 Tap "Pick Location on Map": Opens interactive map modal

2 Search or Pan: Find your location by searching or dragging the map

3 Drop Pin: Tap the map to set your location marker

4 Confirm: Tap "Confirm Location" to save

5 Auto-Fill: Address fields populate automatically from coordinates

Share Contact Details Toggle

Important privacy control:

Enabled: Your contact info and location are visible to other users
Enabled: You appear on the community map (People tab, Map view)
Disabled: Contact details remain private
Disabled: You don't appear on the map

⚠️ Privacy Consideration: Only enable "Share contact details" if you're comfortable with other Overlander users seeing your email, phone, and general location. This is optional and can be toggled anytime.

Tap "Save Profile" button at the bottom

Photos are optimized for fast loading

1 Tap the settings icon next to "Achievements" on your profile

Three sections display your key metrics:

Kilometers Logged

Value: Total distance traveled on logged trips
Format: Displayed with comma separators (e.g., "12,450")
Updates: Automatically calculated from completed trips

Trips

Value: Total number of trips you've participated in
Tap Action: Opens your complete trip history
Includes: Created trips and trips you attended

Places

Value: Number of unique locations you've checked into
Updates: Increments with each new check-in
Helps: Shows your exploration breadth

Social Statistics

Displays your community engagement:

Followers

Number of users following you
Shows your influence in the community
Updates in real-time as people follow/unfollow

Following

Number of users you follow
Indicates your network size
Helps you curate your feed content

📊 Stat Tracking: Statistics update automatically as you use the app. There's no need to manually log activities - just complete trips, check in at locations, and connect with others.

My Trips History

View and manage all your past and upcoming trips.

Accessing Trip History

Tap the "Trips" statistic card on your profile
Or select "My Trips" from the Quick Actions menu
Opens a dedicated trip history page

⚠️ Account Deletion: Deleting your account is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data, trips, posts, and messages will be permanently removed.

Logging Out

Securely end your session when using shared or public devices.

How to Logout

1 Open Profile: Tap the Profile tab

2 Logout Button: Tap the logout icon in the top-right corner

3 Confirm: A dialog asks "Are you sure you want to logout?"

4 Logout: Tap the red "Logout" button

5 Redirect: You're returned to the login screen

After Logging Out

Your session is completely cleared
You'll need to sign in again to access the app
Local cached data is cleared (on most platforms)
Push notifications are disabled until you sign back in

When to Logout

Shared Devices: Always logout on computers or tablets used by others
Public Computers: Essential for security
Selling Device: Logout before transferring ownership
Security Concern: If you suspect unauthorized access

Staying Logged In

On your personal device:

Safe to stay logged in for convenience
Enable device lock/PIN for additional security
Your session persists across app restarts
Automatically logs out after extended inactivity (30 days)

🔒 Security Tip: On personal devices, staying logged in is convenient and generally safe. However, always use a device lock (PIN, fingerprint, face ID) as your primary security layer.

Profiles with photos, bios, and complete information receive more engagement. Take a few minutes to fill out your details.

Update your profile when circumstances change - new vehicle, location move, or contact information updates.

Professional Yet Personal

Your profile represents you in the community. Be authentic and personable while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

Showcase Your Expertise

Complete the expertise assessment and keep achievements current. This helps others gauge your experience level for trip compatibility.

Privacy Awareness

Regularly review your privacy settings. What you were comfortable sharing six months ago might differ from your current preferences.

Engage Meaningfully

Your profile stats (followers, trips, places) grow naturally through genuine participation. Focus on quality connections and experiences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my display name?

Yes, edit your display name anytime from the profile edit screen. Changes are reflected immediately across the app.

How do achievements update?

Complete the expertise assessment by tapping the settings icon next to Achievements. Based on your responses, badges are automatically awarded.

Can others see my email and phone?

Only if you enable "Share contact details" in your profile settings. This control gives you full privacy over personal information.

What happens to my data if I delete my account?

All personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days. Content you contributed (forum posts, location reviews) may remain but will be anonymized.

Can I have multiple profiles?

No, Overlander uses a one-person-one-account model to maintain trust in the community. Multiple accounts violate terms of service.

How are stats calculated?

Kilometers and places are tracked automatically through trip check-ins. Trip count includes all trips where you were organizer, participant, or observer.
