Creating Your Account
To use Overlander, you'll need to create an account using your email address.

After creating your account, you can sign in using your email and password. Your session will remain active across app restarts for convenience.
Setting Up Your Profile
A complete profile helps you connect with the community and makes your trips more memorable.
Basic Profile Information
- Display Name: Choose a name that will be visible to other users
- Profile Photo: Upload a photo to personalize your account
- Bio: Tell others about your overlanding experience and interests
- Location: Set your home location (optional but helpful for finding nearby events)
Expertise Assessment
Complete the expertise assessment to help others understand your experience level and receive appropriate trip recommendations:
- Beginner: New to overlanding or limited experience
- Intermediate: Regular overlander with some experience
- Advanced: Experienced overlander comfortable with challenging terrain
- Expert: Highly experienced with extensive backcountry navigation skills
Navigating the App
Overlander uses a bottom navigation bar (on mobile) or sidebar (on desktop) for easy access to main features.

App Permissions
Overlander requests certain permissions to provide you with the best experience. Here's what each permission is used for:
Location Access
- Why needed: Find nearby locations, track active trips, and enable GPS navigation
- When used: When searching for locations, during active trips, or when adding new locations
- Privacy: Your exact location is only shared when you explicitly choose to do so
Camera & Photos
- Why needed: Take photos of locations, add trip photos, and upload profile pictures
- When used: When adding photos to locations, trips, or your profile
Push Notifications
- Why needed: Receive trip updates, chat messages, and community notifications
- When used: When someone messages you, invites you to a trip, or important trip updates occur
- Control: Can be customized or disabled in Settings
