Understanding the Feed
- Chronological Order: Most recent posts appear first
- Following Only: See posts from people you follow
- Rich Media: Photos, trip reports, location reviews
- Real-Time Updates: Pull down to refresh
Post Types
- Trip Reports: Detailed accounts of completed adventures
- Location Reviews: Experiences at specific places
- Photos: Trail shots, rig photos, scenery
- Questions: Seeking advice or recommendations
- Announcements: Upcoming trips or meet-ups
- Rig Updates: New modifications or builds
Creating a Post
Interacting with Posts
- Like: Tap the heart icon to show appreciation
- Comment: Tap the comment icon to add your thoughts
- Share: Repost to your own feed
- Save: Bookmark posts for later reference
- Report: Flag inappropriate content

- Thread-style conversations under posts
- Reply to specific comments
- Tag other users with @mentions
- Receive notifications for replies to your comments

People Tab
Discover and connect with overlanders around the world or nearby.
Search for People
View Modes
List View (Default)
- User cards with profile photos
- Shows display name and profile picture
- Follow button on each card
- Tap any card to view full profile
Map View
- Interactive map showing user locations
- User markers with names
- Only shows users who enabled location sharing
- Tap markers to view profile details
- Zoom and pan to explore different areas
- Searches automatically as you move the map
Switching Between Views
- Use the view toggle: "List" or "Map"
- List view searches all users (no location filter)
- Map view only shows users with public locations
- Your preference is remembered
Map View Features
- Your Location: Shows your position
- Search Radius: Initially shows users within ~100km
- Dynamic Search: Results update as you pan/zoom
- Marker Info: Tap to see contact details (if shared)
- Profile View: Tap name for full profile
User Profiles
Tap any user card to view their complete profile:
- Profile photo and display name
- Bio and location (if shared)
- Trip history and statistics
- Achievements and expertise level
- Vehicle information
- Followers and following counts
- Contact information (if shared)
Follow System
- Follow Button: Tap to follow a user
- Following Indicator: Shows users you already follow
- No Approval Needed: Following is immediate
- Unfollow: Tap button again to unfollow
- Mutual Connections: See shared follows
Forums Tab
Participate in threaded discussions organized by categories and topics.
Forum Categories
Forums are organized into broad categories:
- General Discussion: Off-topic and community chat
- Trip Planning: Route advice, recommendations
- Vehicles & Gear: Rig builds, modifications, equipment
- Regions: Location-specific discussions
- Technical Help: Troubleshooting and repairs
- Media: Photos, videos, trip reports
- Buy/Sell/Trade: Marketplace for gear
- Announcements: Official updates and news
Browsing Topics
- Topics sorted by recent activity (most recent first)
- See topic title, creator, and reply count
- Preview shows content snippet
- Time stamp shows when posted
- Tap any topic to view full thread
Creating a New Topic
Replying to Topics
- Read the full thread before replying
- Tap "Reply" at the bottom of the topic
- Quote specific posts by tapping "Quote"
- Tag users with @mentions to notify them
- Edit your replies for up to 15 minutes after posting
Forum Etiquette
- Search First: Check if your question was already answered
- Clear Titles: Make titles descriptive and specific
- Stay On Topic: Keep discussions relevant to the category
- Be Respectful: Treat others with courtesy
- Constructive Criticism: Offer helpful, not harsh, feedback
- No Spam: Avoid repetitive posts or excessive self-promotion
- Cite Sources: Credit others' ideas and link to references
Moderator Features
Forum moderators can:
- Move topics to appropriate categories
- Pin important topics to the top
- Lock topics to prevent further replies
- Remove inappropriate content

Chat Rooms
- Open channels anyone can join
- Topic-based discussions

Build your network by following overlanders who inspire you.
How Following Works
- No Approval Required: Following is immediate
- Asymmetric: You can follow someone without them following back
- Mutual Follows: When both users follow each other
- Public Counts: Follower/following numbers visible on profiles

- Posts from followed users in your Feed
- Trip updates and new content
- Forum activity highlights
- Availability for direct chats
Following vs. Friends
Overlander uses a follow model rather than mutual "friend requests":
- Follow anyone without waiting for acceptance
- Build an asymmetric network based on interests
- No awkward friend request rejections
- Similar to Twitter/Instagram model
Managing Your Follows
- View Following: See all people you follow from your profile
- View Followers: See who follows you
- Unfollow: Stop following someone without notification
- Remove Follower: Block someone from following you
- Suggested Users: Discover people with similar interests
Finding People to Follow
- Mutual Connections: See who your follows also follow
- Trip Participants: Follow people from great trips
- Forum Contributors: Follow helpful forum members
- Location Proximity: Use map view to find nearby overlanders

Found in your profile settings (Edit Profile):
- Enabled: You appear on the community map
- Enabled: Other users can see your contact info (email, phone)
- Enabled: Your general location is visible
- Disabled: You don't appear on map view
- Disabled: Contact details remain private

Report Content
- Flag inappropriate posts, comments, or messages
- Provide context about the issue
- Moderators review within 24 hours
- Your report is anonymous
Block Users
- Prevents all interaction with blocked user
- They can't see your posts or profile
- They can't message you
- You won't see their content
- Blocking is reversible
Community Guidelines
Be a positive member of the Overlander community:
Be Respectful
Treat all community members with respect. Disagree on ideas, not people. Personal attacks, harassment, and discrimination have no place in Overlander.
Share Responsibly
Respect private property, protected areas, and fragile ecosystems. Don't share exact coordinates of sensitive locations. Follow Leave No Trace principles.
Give Credit
Acknowledge others' contributions. If you learned a route from someone, give them credit. If you're sharing photos, tag the photographer.
Help Others
Remember when you were new to overlanding. Be patient and helpful with beginners. Share your knowledge generously.
Safety First
Never encourage dangerous behavior. If you see someone planning something unsafe, speak up kindly. We're a community that looks out for each other.
Keep It Legal
Don't promote illegal activities, trespassing, or violations of land use regulations. Respect closures and restrictions.
